Hull City boss Tim Walter was less than impressed with Reading's physical play in Saturday's 2-0 win for the Royals, accusing them of playing 'like it was the world championship final.'
Ben Elliott and Sam Smith found the net in each half to round off an impressive pre-season campaign for Ruben Selles' side ahead of next week's League One curtain-raiser at Birmingham City.
However, the Tigers were left frustrated by some of the strong tackles put in by the hosts, particularly a heavy sliding challenge by teenager Abraham Kanu on Abdus Omur.
Ryan Longman, Omur and Oscar Estupinan all limped off the field after clashes with Royals players, some more innocuous than others.
"What should I say? It's a friendly and they played like it was the world championship final," Walter told Hull Live after the match.
"No excuses, no excuses, but it was a bit hard, especially playing with some slaps in the face and maybe also in a friendly you can punish them more with the cards. It's the style of playing. Maybe in League One, it's the style they will play. We have a different style and we stayed strong and we kept going playing that style."
This has been a theme of Reading friendlies this summer, with the previous home win against Queens Park Rangers also spilling over into off-the-ball clashes on occasion following some heavy tackles.
