Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has labelled the protracted Rob Couhig takeover of Reading ''a potential match made in heaven.'

The former Wolves and Walsall forward has been covering EFL matches for over 20 years and infamously scored Walsall's winner against the Royals in the 2001 play-off final.

Couhig, the American lawyer, had spent time in charge of near-neighbours Wycombe Wanderers and is close to confirming a takeover of the Royals to end an eight-year disastrous spell under Dai Yongge.

Having been on the scene for a few months, the 75-year-old has been in Berkshire regularly.

“Rob Couhig has got a good track record and he's also looking to purchase a very, very good football club that has been grossly mismanaged by its current owners," Goodman told Grosvenor Sport. "Reading needs a bit of TLC.

“So the potential for whoever takes over at Reading is enormous. I think they'll be loved forever by the supporters. They've got a good manager in Ruben Selles. They've got some good young players. So it is a potential match made in heaven, isn't it really?”

Reading are currently unable to move in the transfer market until a deal goes through, leaving Ruben Selles' squad as the only one without a new signing.
