Reading are interested in Everton defender Reece Welch, according to Football Insider journalist Peter O'Rourke.

The 20-year-old has spent over a decade rising through the ranks at Goodison Park but is finding game time hard to come by with the Premier League giants.

An England Under-20 international, the youngster spent the first half of last season on loan with Forest Green Rovers and managed 23 appearances during his short spell in Gloucestershire.

According to Football Insider, Reading have enquired about the defender, as have League One rivals Leyton Orient.

This would need to be concluded swiftly with the window closing on August 30, however, the Royals are currently unable to make any signings until the protracted takeover is completed.

Ruben Selles' thread-bare squad has already lost Femi Azeez in this window, with the winger moving to Millwall on Tuesday for a reported £1m.

Reading managed only one loan signing in January, with Arsenal defender Zane Monlouis making a two-minute cameo in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town in February.
