Former Reading star John Salako has revealed that he has spoken with parties interested in buying the club and underlined the importance of location in a deal.

The former England midfielder played over 100 times for the Royals towards the end of his illustrious career, a large part of the last team to get promoted out of the third tier in 2002.

A famous face on Sky Sports' football coverage, the Crystal Palace legend appeared on the 1871 Podcast to discuss the situation at Reading.

During the 45-minute episode, the former favourite admitted that he has held talks with parties interested in acquiring the club.

"Reading is a brilliant family club in such a brilliant position. I’ve spoken to a few people interested in buying Reading and it’s all about it being a one-club city [town] on the M4 corridor near Heathrow and in Berkshire. If you’re a chairman, you want to live there- probably somewhere near Henley. Geographically you can get everywhere around the country, so it ticks so many boxes. When I was talking to prospective buyers, that is what they say- it is in a fantastic location. I remember Sir John Madejski- who I love and who did so much. We just need another Sir John."

Former Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig, and his consortium, have been on the brink of confirming their takeover of the club for the past fortnight.

An unknown hitch has held up the deal, causing uncertainty among staff and supporters as the transfer window closes this week.
