Reading boss Ruben Selles has been told that the protracted takeover by Rob Couhig and his consortium is 'at the final stage' but is unable to give any timeframe.
The 75-year-old American infamously met supporters a fortnight ago and promised that a deal was close, with photos taken on the pitch and regular social media updates.
In the two weeks since, all has fallen silent in the way of updates, with the Royals unable to add any player into their squad until a takeover is confirmed.
With supporters fearing the worst, Selles was once again asked for the latest.
"I had a follow-up with the situation and my information is that the deal is at the final stage, and it is probably going to be done sooner rather than later," he said on Thursday afternoon. "We have been there before, and it didn’t happen for different reasons. My information is that it is at the final stage- if that is tonight or next week, I’m not sure."
It is not yet known if the former Wycombe Wanderers chief will attend Saturday's match with Charlton Athletic.
He was not in Wrexham last week for the 3-0 defeat, with the Dragons famously under their own American ownership in the way of Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.
