Reading boss expects new addition Chem Campbell to be 'very important' to his side after the international break.

21-year-old Campbell moved in the final hour of the summer transfer window, the club's only arrival, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers until January.

Having previously told the media that new recruits were not possible, late talks with the EFL saw a move open up and the former Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers youngster was turned to.

Unveiled to supporters at half-time of Saturday's 2-0 win over Charlton, Ruben Selles was quizzed on the Wales youth star after the match.

"When we had the conversation, we started to push some things, internally and externally, and started to call lawyers. Finally, we got the possibility yesterday, at six or seven o’clock, and the EFL authorised us to have a loan," the Spaniard confirmed.

"Chem was there almost the entire time- our first option- and is a player who is very good in one-versus-one situations, very dynamic and can give us some freshness. He offers a different profile to those we already have and has experience in League One with his loans to Wycombe and Charlton.

"He’s still at a young age so has a lot of development and is a good character that is going to enter into the team really quickly. We need help and he can be very important to us."

Due to international call-ups, Reading don't return to action until September 14 against Leyton Orient, with Campbell in line to make his Royals debut against the winless O's.
