Reading Football Club are currently in a legal dispute with former Head of Football Operations Mark Bowen.

The 60-year-old Welshman was previously a player and manager in Berkshire, but took over as Head of Football Operations in 2022.

In July, the Norwich City legend was banned by the Football Association for being found guilty of placing 95 bets on football matches between April 2022 and January 2024.

First broken by the Times, it is understood that Reading have sacked Bowen for ‘bringing the club into disrepute.’

However, Bowen has reportedly taken legal action and lawyers now acting on his behalf may point to the outcome of other disciplinary matters at the club.

A disciplinary panel in May ruled that former CEO Nigel Howe, Head of Academy Michael Gilkes and club secretary Sue Hewett had breached regulations and saw the club fined £200,000.

Howe- who is heading up the club's sale process- has been banned from football from November.

Reading boss Ruben Selles was asked about Bowen last week but opted not to comment.

The club are yet to comment.
