A member of Wokingham Lions Football Club says he is ‘delighted’ that an annual autumn walk continues to be popular – and encourages locals to explore the area’s ‘lovely’ countryside.

The football club will host the annual walk on Sunday, October 13, following its usual route starting and ending at Elm’s Field in the centre of Wokingham.

Walkers can choose to follow either a five, ten or fifteen-mile path and be rest assured that they’re helping to support their local club while also getting some fresh air and discovering the town’s pretty surroundings.

Andy Slay, who heads the walk’s organisation team, said he has been told by many participants over the years that they “didn’t know such beautiful and interesting places existed” near Wokingham.

Adding: “We also find that walkers use the event in different ways – to catch up with family and friends, as part of the preparation for another, longer walk, to raise money by sponsorship for their favourite charity and even to get the children away from their computer screens!

“I’m delighted that it continues to be so well-received by the town and that both the spring and autumn walks are now firm fixtures in Wokingham’s calendar.

“Local charities and people increasingly use the walk to fundraise by sponsorship, something that we always wanted to happen from its inception.”

Participants can register for the autumn walk now at www.wokinghamwalk.co.uk. Tickets cost £15 per adult and £5 per child over 12, with free entry for younger kids.
