Reading legend Glen Little has praised boss Ruben Selles for turning around form from last season, admitting that there were times he 'thought we were going down.'

48-year-old Little had three spells with the Royals and racked up over 100 appearances, famously crucial in the club's record-breaking promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

Now a regular pundit on the radio, also covering former club Burnley, the winger has watched the Royals plenty since hanging up his boots.

Last season, the club's first back in League One for 20 years, Reading were 10 points adrift of safety in November following a 3-2 defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

However, for the final five months of the season, Reading were among the form teams and went on to finish nine points clear of the relegation zone.

This improved form has continued into the early stages of this season, with Reading only losing one of their first four fixtures.

"Especially with the second half of last season as well, I felt that it was important because we did improve," Little told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"There were three or four occasions before Christmas where I saw some of the results and thought we were going down. We did turn it around in the second half of the season and stayed up comfortably in the end.

"Can you take that into this season? So far so good. The fixture list hasn’t been kind. After Leyton Orient, Barnsley and Rotherham away games with Huddersfield."

After having a fortnight off with international fixtures, the Royals return to action on Saturday at home to bottom side Leyton Orient, who are currently yet to pick up a point.
