Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Chem Campbell could make his Reading debut on Saturday after being drafted in at the eleventh hour on deadline day.

The 22-year-old has eight appearances for Wolves under his belt but has spent most of the last two seasons on loan in League One.

Linking up with near-neighbours Wycombe Wanderers in 2023, the forward had two loan spells at Adam's Park, sandwiching a 12-game stint at Charlton Athletic in 2023.

The Reading Chronicle spoke to James Richings, of sister paper The Bucks Free Press, to find out what Royals fans can expect from Campbell between now and January.

How would you reflect upon his time at Wycombe Wanderers?

"He had two spells at Wycombe, and it goes without saying that his first tenure was much better than his second. We didn't know it at the time, but he would be one of the final signings of the Gareth Ainsworth era, and when he made his debut against Port Vale, you could see there was talent.

"He did okay under Matt Bloomfield at the back end of 2023, scoring three goals in 17 matches, and he was actually the first goal scorer of the Bloomfield era. He bagged his strike in a 1-1 draw against Exeter after two minutes. His second spell was plagued by injuries, featuring just eight times where he failed to complete a full 90 and didn't score

What will he offer to Reading?

"He's a player that needs to express himself. I would personally describe him as an 'old fashioned' winger, where he just attacks. You don't see it as much now, but he loves a dribble, and he can easily get past a man. One of those players that gets you on the edge of your seat. On his day, he just needs a run of games and Reading will hope to see the best out of him.

"One of his best performances in a Wycombe shirt was in a 2-0 away win at Bristol Rovers in March last year - Bloomfield's first away win. He ran the show and even scored."
