Reading boss Ruben Selles is confident that American businessman Rob Couhig will not give up on his attempt to takeover the football club.

The 75-year-old spent five years at the helm of near-neighbours Wycombe Wanderers and for the last three months has spearheaded a deal to buy the Royals.

Meeting fans in August and telling them a deal was imminent, as well as teasing supporters with pictures in the Purple Turtle and Bearwood, the lawyer has been a regular at the stadium and training ground.

However, multiple hitches continue to push back a much-needed end to the seven-year reign of Dai Yongge, who has taken the club from the brink of the Premier League to a relegation battle in League One.

Years of transfer embargoes, winding-up petitions and redundancies has taken the club to the very brink of closure.

"I don’t think Rob is the type of person who gives up," Selles told the media ahead of Leyton Orient's visit on Saturday. "If was that kind of person, he would have already given up a long time ago.

"He is fighting for the deal. I think he really wants to get the club. I don’t think he is going to give up, that is my opinion. If something massive happens against him or he doesn’t feel it is going to happen, it may happen, but we have been living in many different situations at Reading Football Club and we are looking at Rob and thinking ‘that can change everything’ and bring us some calmness. Hopefully, it happens.

"As a manager, I need to be ready for every scenario. We need to be prepared for any scenario and hopefully, the best one will happen when Rob gets the club."

Couhig and business partner Todd Trosclair, as well as former Wycombe captain Joe Jacobson, have already had their official club photographs taken on the pitch at the SCL Stadium.
