Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens 'thanked' his goalkeeper Zach Hemming for his performance in their 1-0 victory over Reading on Saturday.

Keeping a first clean sheet since joining the O's, Hemming made a strong save against Royals debutant Chem Campbell in the second half as the hosts looked to draw level after Charlie Kelman had put the Londoners ahead before the break.

Peppering the box throughout, Ruben Selles' side were unable to find the back of the net to condemn them to a first home defeat for six months and the first time firing blanks in Berkshire for almost a calendar year.

"It was a really good performance," Wellens told the club media channel. "I thought they started really well in the first 10 minutes but after that we dominated the first half- I don’t think they had a shot on our goal. They kept going and put us under a bit of pressure at the end and had a couple of opportunities- the one versus one where we put blocks in.

"I thought Zach [Hemming] was excellent today and that will do his confidence the world of good. He’s a good kid and he’s growing. When you start to embrace a new club, that comes with winning and feeling the love for your teammates. We thank him for the three points today because I thought he was excellent. There were numerous other performances that I thought were very good.

"We could have made it easier for ourselves, our game management and decision-making at times needs to be better. We’re a work-in-progress and we’ll keep getting better."

Reading will look to return to winning ways on Saturday at Bolton Wanderers, who themselves suffered a home defeat last time out as Huddersfield Town demolished the Trotters 4-0.
