Reading boss Ruben Selles has requested supporters avoid protesting in a way which sees the club hit with points deductions amid growing unrest.

A protracted takeover attempt from American Rob Couhig collapsed on Tuesday and the club have only months of funding left to find a buyer.

Selles and former CEO Nigel Howe sat down with media to discuss the situation as it approaches a 13th month since Dai Yongge put the club up for sale.

Supporters have protested for over a year, from throwing tennis balls to marching, showing cards and invading the pitch.

After getting their meeting with Port Vale abandoned in January, the EFL have imposed a suspended points deduction should another game be disrupted.

Needing all the points they can get, and to avoid a fourth successive season with deductions, Selles has called for supporters to protest off the pitch.

"If I can ask for something it will be to not be disruptive to this group of players- that's what I can ask for," he told media ahead of tomorrow's trip to Bolton Wanderers.  "I always say that I respect what they do. It is always in a peaceful way. Right now, I ask that we don't get hit by points deductions or anything."

Reading host Huddersfield Town next Saturday, a fixture live on Sky Sports.

Protest group Sell Before We Dai are yet to confirm their next plan of action.
