Reading suffered a bruising 5-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers to round off a hideous week in which the long-term future of the club came into question as a takeover collapsed at the 11th hour.

Take a look at the ratings below.

David Button, 6: Made some strong saves but got nowhere near either penalty and could have done better with Josh Sheehan's free-kick in the first-half.

Michael Craig, 6: Looked to get forward whenever possible and defended decently enough in what was a tough match for full-backs. A baptism of fire.

Amadou Mbengue, 5: A little erratic and gave the referee a decision to make with his penalty. Reacted well and looked switched on for the second half.

Tyler Bindon, 5: Similar to Mbengue, certainly not his best game for the Royals. Making a poor choice to give away a penalty, the youngster responded well and the team improved in the second half.

Jeriel Dorsett, 4: A really tough day for the makeshift full-back, targeted constantly and struggling. Beaten too easily for Dion Charles' second goal and forced off with an injury. A day to forget.

Lewis Wing, 5: Not the captain's best day, almost too deep to really impact the game in an attacking sense. Improved as the game wore on and finding his range by the end, it took time to get going.

Ben Elliott, 7: Another really bright game for the youngster, taking the ball on the turn and driving forward. Took his goal very well- his first league goal for the club.

Harvey Knibbs, 6: Great to have the midfielder back, winning the ball high on so many occasions and looking to rock the hosts. His return is only a positive for the club.

Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, 5: Game of two halves for the youngster, looking uninterested in the first half but the sides main outlet for the second half. Came so close to scoring but saw his effort crash off the crossbar.

Sam Smith, 5: Tough day with little service for the forward but took his penalty well. Needs to be fed more often.

Chem Campbell, 5: Difficult afternoon for the new signing, who struggled to get the final ball into dangerous areas.

Substitutes

Kelvin Abrefa, 7: Alongside Elliott, the Royals' best player. Had a real impact offensively and looked comfortable defensively. Will see plenty of minutes in the coming weeks.

Adrian Akande, 6: Looked bright when he came on and flashed a few balls into dangerous areas. Another who will no doubt feature prominently in the coming matches.
