Reading legend Phil Parkinson has won EFL League One Manager of the Month for August as his Wrexham team navigated an unbeaten opening month.
Parkinson has taken the Welsh side from the top of the National League to the top of League One, losing to Birmingham City this month for their only defeat of the campaign to date.
Reading suffered a 3-0 defeat at STōK Cae Ras in August, the first game in which they had failed to score since January.
The Royals legend featured over 400 times between 1992 and 2003 before going on to enjoy a successful EFL managerial career with the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Colchester United and Bradford City.
Parkinson told the EFL: “A lot of hard work has gone into it, from pre-season all the way through to the end of that first month. Everyone connected to the Club can take great credit for the work that has gone in.
“It’s great to get the award, for myself but more importantly for everybody; the players, and all the staff – and I mean all the staff, because everybody contributes. We can congratulate ourselves on it, but it is just the first month of the season and we know that and there’s so much more work to be done.
“But we’re really enjoying being in this division. You can sense it – there’s a great anticipation on the training ground every day, and a competitive edge in the way we’re going about our business.”
