Jeriel Dorsett is the latest defender to join a growing list of injured Reading stars- missing for up to six weeks after being substituted at Bolton Wanderers.
The centre-back turned full-back has started every League One fixture to date but could miss plenty in the coming month after sustaining an ankle injury in Saturday's 5-2 defeat in Lancashire.
Club captain Andy Yiadom has not featured since April and is expected to be out until the New Year.
First-choice goalkeeper Joel Pereira will not return until mid-October having missed the last two games with a twisted ankle.
Speaking to the media ahead of Huddersfield Town's visit on Saturday, manager Ruben Selles said: "He [Dorsett] is going to be out for four to six weeks after an ankle injury, so we don’t expect him until the end of next month. We are light- we know it. Jeriel has played almost every game this season, so he is an important player for us. There are some players, like Kelvin Abrefa and Andre Garcia, who can occupy the position. It is what it is.
"He [Yiadom] is far away. He has been off the pitch for five or six months. They changed therapy and he is now back in the gym to be strong enough to run and get on the pitch. We are talking at least until the end of December or January in the best case.
"He [Pereira] is doing really well with his recovery but I think it will be after the international break- one or two weeks after.
"In every team for every season the beginning is challenging because you come from a position in pre-season where the players had a big load and then they go into matches.
"We had a couple of injuries in the same period, but the big difference is our depth is not there, so it affects us more. It is strange to have an injury in the goalkeeper position, but it happens. Injuries like Jeriel and Mama can happen, and we need to get over it."
The Terriers' visit on Saturday is a 12.30pm kick-off and is being broadcast live on Sky Sports.
