Burton Albion boss Mark Robinson has called on his players to develop a 'nasty streak' after their 3-1 defeat to Reading- an eighth match without win.

The former Chelsea Under-21 boss is yet to experience a league win with the Brewers since arriving over the summer.

After surviving on the final day last year, the East Midlands side had a change of ownership over the summer and 23 players arrived at the Pirelli Stadium.

Chem Campbell's first-half brace put the Royals in a commanding lead but the Brewers improved after the break. Sam Smith wrapped up the win with a late header before Danilo Orsi grabbed a consolation moments later.

Speaking to the club media after the match, Robinson spoke of his players' individual errors in the first half but felt his side were 'very very dominant' after the break.

"If anyone was here at the end of the game nobody would have thought that they had won the game 3-1," he commented. "They were doing a lap of honour to about 150 people because in the second half we were very very dominant. We got caught a couple of times being open but that is what we want this team to look like- aggressive, a nasty streak about us and we’ve got to be effective and play all sorts of football."

The former AFC Wimbledon chief also hinted at some unhappiness with officiating decisions, believing that decisions are not yet evening out.

In this musing, the highly-regarded coach questioned whether this was down to his lack of professional playing career.

"We need a bit of a nastiness because I’m learning that certain things aren’t going to fall in our favour," he added. "In the first four games, you might think things will even out but when there’s a pattern- the same as a pattern in our play, my job as a coach is to sort that out- I realise there is a pattern in certain things that go on with decisions.

"Maybe it’s because we’re Little Old Burton and I didn’t have a stellar football career that maybe we have to swallow it and get a little bit nasty."

Burton face Bristol Rovers on Saturday while Reading travel to Rotherham United.
