Reading teenager Verrell George caught the eye on his debut for Noel Hunt's Under-21s, bagging a hattrick and salvaging a 3-3 draw at Everton from two goals behind.
The 17-year-old was a regular for Mikele Leigertwood's Under-18s side last year, making 15 appearances in the Under-18s Premier League.
He continued with the Under-18s at the beginning of the season, having two appearances to his name this season, but Hunt called him up for the trip to Merseyside and it was a debut to remember.
The Toffees were 3-0 up within an hour and cruising to a deserved victory, however, they did not account for a 23-minute cameo from George.
Scoring twice in two minutes to reduce the deficit to just one with 15 minutes remaining, George saved his hattrick moment for stoppage time to seal a remarkable comeback and signal his intent with the older age category.
He was lining up alongside the likes of Louie Holzman, Jay Senga and Emmanuel Osho, all of whom have already made first-team debuts.
In Tuesday's 3-1 win over Burton Albion, 16-year-old Andre Garcia played from the start, showing that to Ruben Selles if you are good enough, you are old enough.
