Cheltenham Town have explained that it was not until 4.30pm that persistent rain put Tuesday night's EFL Trophy clash in doubt, with the match called off 50 minutes later.
The Royals' second group game of the campaign was due to be played at 7pm at EV Charger Points Stadium, however heavy rain saw the match postponed due to a later date.
Releasing a detailed explanation, the Robins explained that it was not until 4.30pm that the status of the match was first thrown into doubt.
"Following persistent heavy rainfall in the area throughout this afternoon, this evening’s referee carried out a pitch inspection upon his arrival before postponing the clash," it read.
"The surface at the EV Charger Points Stadium was playable until around 4:30PM when surface water began to appear as the drainage system had rapidly filled up.
"With the nature of the downpours and their timing, there was no way in which the ground staff were able to foresee this issue."
A new date has not yet been confirmed, although next Tuesday (October 15) has been rumoured by those close to the Robins.
