Former Reading star Ovie Ejaria is hoping a reunion with his former Royals manager, Jose Gomes, will revive his stalling career.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder was highly-rated when joining Reading on loan in 2019, impressing so much that Gomes signed the England youth international on a permanent basis 12 months later.
Over 100 appearances later, the former Liverpool youngster struggled and made just eight appearances in his final 18 months with the club, failing to find the back of the net.
His contract was terminated early and despite taking in trials with Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle, Ejaria has been without a club since December 2023.
According to King Fut, Ejaria has headed out to Egypt for a trial with Zamalek SC, who are managed by Gomes.
Zamalek’s official spokesperson Ahmed Salem said: "Nothing is official regarding new signings. Some have claimed that Zamalek have officially signed ex-Liverpool player Ovie Ejaria, but the truth is that the player has been offered to us, and the decision has not been finalized yet.”
Gomes, popular among fans, helped keep the Royals in the Championship in 2018/19 but only lasted until October of the 2019/20 campaign, with Sporting Director Mark Bowen taking charge in his place.
Zamalek finished third in the top-flight last season and have won 14 Egyptian Premier League titles and five CAF Champions League titles.
