Reading midfielder Charlie Savage has labelled Ruben Selles' ability to work with young players as one of his best features.

The 21-year-old made the move from Manchester United last summer and was a regular for the Royals as they overturned a huge deficit to comfortably survive in League One last season.

Starting the new season in form, with three goals to his name, Savage is already a full Wales international but has dropped to the bench in recent weeks.

Selles has become of interest to a Welsh audience due to rumours linking him with a move to Championship strugglers Cardiff City.

While away on international duty with Wales Under-21, the midfielder was quizzed on his Royals boss and the impact he has made on his fledgling career in the EFL while in Berkshire.

Speaking to Clwbpeldroed, Savage commented: "Rubén is a manager that likes developing young players and gives them a chance. That was evident over the weekend when we had a 16-year-old play for us. He wants to develop people’s games, and I’ve really enjoyed playing under him.”

Selles himself was unable to rule himself out of an exit, believing that the club is currently only 'surviving' and not building towards anything until a takeover is completed.

Savage, away with Wales, is hoping to lead his nation to the Under-21 European Championships for the first-time ever with a win over Czech Republic.
