Former Reading coach Martin Allen has passionately spoken about the situation at the club, questioning how Dai Yongge was allowed to buy the club.
Allen, born and raised in the town, is the son of Royals legend Denis from the 1960s and 1970s.
Going on to enjoy a playing career with the likes of West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers, 'Mad Dog' returned to his hometown club in a coaching capacity at the turn of the Millennium under Alan Pardew.
Taking his first role in management in 2003, the much-loved character has won two league titles and most notably had four spells at National League club Barnet.
Appearing on the No Tippy Tappy Podcast alongside former England boss Sam Allardyce, Allen was given the opportunity to speak about the crisis at Reading.
"It’s in a lot of debt," he started. "It was going to be taken over, look at how many points they’ve lost. The threat is of Reading Football Club going- it’s right there. I’ve got friends from school that are season ticket holders, their kids go with them and their grandchildren now go to watch Reading at the Madejski Stadium, a fantastic stadium.
"This guy- Dai- has had two previous clubs that have gone bust in other countries and now he’s got Reading. How has he been allowed to take Reading? I thought they had Fit and Proper Persons tests?
"I don’t get why they don’t just sell it? I cannot understand it. He’s a multi-billionaire and from what we’re reading he has just shrugged his shoulders."
The club is currently in exclusive negotiations with an unnamed buyer and other parties remain interested, but a deal with American Rob Couhig collapsed at the 11th hour to test the faith and patience of all those connected to the club even more.
