On this day in 2015, Reading beat Charlton Athletic 1-0 to move up to second in the Championship after an impressive start under Steve Clarke.
Heading into the game, the Royals were sat third in the table after 10 matches and had beaten Bristol City, Burnley and Middlesbrough whilst only conceding once.
This run was preceded by a mixed start, with two wins but only two wins in the first seven.
Nick Blackman was the star attraction for Reading at the time having hit eight league goals in the first 10 fixtures, looking to make it four consecutive games with a goal as the Addicks visited Berkshire.
Over 17,000 supporters turned out for the clash with the struggling London side, with Guy Luzon's side battling off-field troubles of their own akin to those experienced at the time of writing in Reading.
The visitors managed one shot on target and were reduced to 10 men when Patrick Baeur was shown a second yellow card in the second half.
Knocking on the door throughout, with big chances wasted by Lucas Piazon, Orlando Sa, Oliver Norwood and Ola John, it took until the final 15 minutes for the pressure to count.
Piazon, on loan from Chelsea, found Blackman with a cross and a clever header evaded current England goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Moving the Royals into second, Clarke would win just once more as Reading boss after reportedly speaking to Fulham regarding their vacancy.
Come May, Reading would finish 17th in the Championship back under the stewardship of legendary figure Brian McDermott.
The New Year at least brought another exciting cup run, with Reading making successive quarter-finals but failing to overcome Premier League Crystal Palace in front of a sold-out SCL Stadium crowd.
Meanwhile, at the Valley, Charlton finished nine points adrift of safety and were relegated to League One.
