Crawley Town boss Rob Elliott was left 'frustrated' after his side suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at Reading on Saturday.

The Red Devils have lost six matches in a row and remain rooted in the relegation zone of League One, but the scoreline did not do the visitors justice on Saturday as Royals boss Ruben Selles was left wanting more from his side despite the big win.

Amadou Mbengue, Lewis Wing, Charlie Savage and Sam Smith all found the net for the hosts, but both Mbengue and Tyler Bindon were forced to clear chances off the goal line and goalkeeper David Button was kept busy throughout.

Elliott, formerly a long-time servant in goal for Newcastle United, is yet to pick up a point since moving from National League Gateshead to West Sussex.

However, he believes his side are not far away from doing so should they continue to perform as they did in Berkshire.

"It’s frustrating because there were so many good moments, and we created so many opportunities- not small opportunities but clear-cut in the penalty area and the middle of the goal," he told the official media channel. "I can’t even count how many times it was cleared off the line or blocked so there is frustration in that sense and frustration that in the big moments- when the ball turns over, we let them in.

"We’ve got to keep working on it and keep getting better because I think we can see we’re nearly there; we just need to keep working and staying consistent and learn from the things that are hurting us because for all that great play and chances, you come away 4-1."

Reading look to pick up their first away win of the season on Tuesday at Exeter City.
