On this day last year, thousands of Reading supporters marched from the town centre to the Select Car Leasing Stadium in protest against owner Dai Yongge.

Mirroring the actions of supporters back in 1983, who staged their own protest against Robert Maxwell's 'Thames Valley Royals' ploy, almost 2,000 turned out in 2023 and shut down traffic on the A33 relief road.

A proud day for supporters, politicians and former players involved, it beggars belief that 365 days on little has changed in the cause, with Yongge still clinging onto the club by his finger nails.

Sell Before We Dai, the protest group behind the fan action for the past 12 months, said: "The march was a great event, made possible by countless Reading fans. We may be in an exclusivity period, but this takeover saga is dragging on.

"You’re always waiting for the next bit of news to come out about Dai. He’s an unwanted distraction. No more games, sell the club."

On the pitch, despite taking a two-goal lead over Portsmouth, the eventual champions won 3-2 in a frenzied atmosphere.
