Former Reading midfielder Charlie Adam has praised boss Ruben Selles and labelled the club 'wonderful' ahead of his first return to Berkshire since his exit in 2020.

The former Liverpool and Stoke City star ended his playing days in England with a season in RG2 in 2019/20, scoring twice in 27 appearances.

Ending his playing career with hometown club Dundee, the former Scotland international took over Fleetwood last season and drew 1-1 with Reading at Highbury Stadium but will make his first return to the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Saturday's FA Cup First Round meeting.

Speaking to the club media ahead of the tie, Adam spoke incredibly highly of his former club and the job done by his opposite number, Selles.

"You would want a better tie in terms of travelling to Reading but it’s a wonderful football club with great people. Ruben has done a great job from where they were last year to now. They had a tough defeat at Stockport on Tuesday, but I expect them to come with full energy, good supporters and a good team with good players."

The Cod Army are sat 15th in League Two, their first campaign back in the basement division of the EFL for a decade.

Having only ever played at the SCL Stadium once previously, last season, Lee Johnson's side won 2-1 on the night with a last-minute Josh Vela winner.
