Reading forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan is set to miss the next three months with a hip tendon injury, boss Ruben Selles has confirmed.

The forward has been a prominent figure under Selles, becoming a regular in the last 18 months, but injured himself in Tuesday's cameo at Stockport County.

On the injury list alongside fellow forward Sam Smith and defenders Andy Yiadom, Jeriel Dorsett and Kelvin Abrefa, the Royals' wafer thin squad is set to get even smaller as the busy festive period of fixtures gets into full swing.

Talking to the media after Saturday's 2-0 win over Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup, the Spaniard said: "He is going to be three months out. It is a severe injury in a tendon in the hip. It is 12 weeks. It’s bad news."

Reading return to action on Tuesday in the EFL Trophy at Cheltenham Town, with the boss expected to field another side full of changes.

"We will have a competitive team out like today," he said on Saturday. "Potentially a team similar to today with maybe a couple of changes. We have the idea of having a fresh team, getting three points in the group and qualifying for the next round."
