Reading boss Ruben Selles expects the squad for this evening's EFL Trophy tie at Cheltenham Town will be 'similar' to the one which knocked Fleetwood Town out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Spaniard made seven changes on Saturday from last Tuesday's 4-1 defeat at Stockport County, but it was still strong enough to knock Charlie Adam's League Two side out over the weekend.

With a thin squad, not helped by the recent long-term injury to forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, there are little replacements Selles can make game-to-game.

This is not helped by the competition rules, which limited the amount of changes a manager can make.

Speaking after Saturday's win, Selles said: "We will have a competitive team out like today. Potentially a team similar to today with maybe a couple of changes. We have the idea of having a fresh team, getting three points in the group and qualifying for the next round."

The Royals were due to face the Robins at Whaddon Road a fortnight ago but heavy rainfall saw the tie postponed.

In that time, Reading won three League One matches in a row before losing heavily at Edgeley Park.

Despite losing the likes of Ehibhatiomhan and Sam Smith in that time, Selles has insisted the squad won't be any worse than the one set to feature in the original fixture.

"I think it is going to be a little bit different. The squad is going to be a little bit different but no better or worse, just different. We will go there with the way that we do things and the key to being competitive is that we are repetitive with our message and put demands to every player like they are a professional player. They are a pro player, and they are very important to us so we don’t give things for granted or play matches expecting to lose. We don’t put players on the pitch who don’t deserve to be on the pitch."
