Former Reading captain Liam Moore has joined non-league Spalding United after his release from League One Northampton Town over the summer.

The 31-year-old rose through the ranks with Leicester City and made over 60 appearances before joining Reading in 2016.

Spending seven years in Berkshire, the former England Under-21 international made over 230 appearances and won Player of the Season in 2018.

His final two years were marred by injury and controversy, stripped of the captaincy amid uncertainty over his future and sent on loan to Stoke City after a strong statement from owner Dai Yongge.

He proved popular among supporters for his hard work during the Covid-19 pandemic, ringing isolated supporters to check on them and delivered PPE to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The Jamaica international played eight times for the Cobblers last season in the third tier but opted to retire in August. However, he has now joined Spalding of the Southern League Premier Division Central.

He made in debut in Saturday's win at Stratford Town.
