Reading boss Ruben Selles believes the new 'philosophy' held by Wales boss Craig Bellamy should help midfielder Charlie Savage after his recent call-up.

The 21-year-old earned two caps under previous manager Rob Page, but had spent the last few international breaks playing for the Wales Under-21 side.

A regular under Selles since arriving last summer, Savage has started the new campaign well and has seven goal contributions in 16 appearances across all competitions to earn a recall to the senior set-up for fixtures with Turkey and Iceland.

Speaking after Tuesday's 3-0 win over Newport County, Selles discussed Savage and how a more advanced position in Berkshire has seen the youngster stand-out.

"Since we changed Charlie’s position over the summer as an eight- the left-footed eight position- with his ability and quality it suits him better than the six position," he said. "He has been involved in scoring and some situations but also his intensity in the counter-press and reading pressure.

"Charlie is a great player and the way Wales are playing now, a little bit more aggressive than they were with the change of philosophy, I think it suits him really well. Hopefully it is the first of many for him."

Basil Tuma (Malta) and Tyler Bindon (New Zealand) are the Royals' other international call-ups which have seen Saturday's scheduled fixture with Shrewsbury Town postponed.
